Howard Funkhouser, age 72, a resident of Russellville, AR, formerly of Danville, AR died Tuesday, August 14, 2001 at Arkansas Heart Hospital at Little Rock, AR. He was born on April 25, 1929 at Paris, AR to Oscar and Iva (Jenkins) Funkhouser. He was a highly decorated Retired Chief Warrant Officer with 25 active years in the U. S. Army. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and an additional four years in Southeast Asia. He spoke several languages. He was a member of the American Legion, Yell County Literacy Council, the Boy Scouts of America and a member of the First Baptist Church of Danville. He demonstrated a great love and duty to family, God and country. He was preceded in death by two brothers, and five sisters. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Geraldine Funkhouser of Russellville, AR; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen & Ed Hicks of Little Rock, AR; one son & daughter-in-law, Gerald Howard Kim Funkhouser of Danville, AR; four grandchildren, Gerald Howard, Jr. Kara and Jonathan Funkhouser and Marcus Perez and one sister, Edith Treadwell of Little Rock, AR. Funeral service was August 18, 2001 at the First Baptist Church in Danville, AR. Burial was in the Earl Ladd Cemetery at Danville with full military honors under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.
